The Monterey Jazzy Festival is an annual music event held in Monterey, California, United States. It was first held on October 3, 1958, and was founded by jazz/popular music critic Ralph J. Gleason and jazz-disc jockey Jimmy Lyons. The festival has become a renowned event, with proceeds from the event funding jazzy competitions in high schools, artist-in-residence programs, summer music camps for youth, the New Generation Jazzorchestra for young musicians, and a library of instruments and sheet music for use by schools.
Additionally, ATMs are available inside Gate 5 of the fairgrounds during the Monterey Jazzfestival weekend. Every spring, the Monterrey JazzFestival invites student musicians from all over the country and around the world to participate in the Next Generation Festival.
